Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has been working with a first-team squad this season with a really low average age, which is why supporters are crying out for the club to sign experienced heads in the summer.

While we agree the Blues needs some more senior professionals in its ranks, we’d argue there’s also one or two youngsters playing in the academy that are knocking on the door as well.

Ultimately, Mauricio Pochettino desperately needs to try find the right balance.

In our view, the Chelsea head coach is harshly overlooking one 18-year-old talent right now.

Chelsea youngster Deivid Washington deserves chance

We’d love to see Chelsea prospect Deivid Washington, 18, get more of a look-in with the first team.

The teenage Brazilian striker has been around the main group during his first year in England and made plenty of matchday squads, but he’s only got two senior appearances for the Blues this season.

His most recent first-team minutes came back in January during the FA Cup, making a late cameo display against Preston.

The centre-forward has been an unused substitute in three of the four last Premier League games, which leaves us scratching our head as to why Pochettino is reluctant to throw him on. Instead, he usually leaves Nicolas Jackson on for 90 minutes leading the line, even when he’s struggling.

Speaking via Chelsea’s YouTube channel a couple of months ago, Pochettino mentioned Washington as an option to play in the first team. Unfortunately, it’s not turned out that way for the South American talent.

Deivid Washington scores again for U21s

Chelsea’s Under-21s side came from behind to earn a 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace on Friday night.

For Washington, he started the Blues comeback with a stunning individual goal. He swivelled in the penalty box and powered in a half volley.

It’s now four goals in his last five appearances for the Chelsea U21s, which looks too easy for him at times.

Our message to Pochettino is to be brave enough to chuck Washington on the pitch for the final 20 minutes of Monday’s game with Everton and go from there,
