Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino should start one player for the very first time on Monday night.

The Blues host Everton on Monday in the latest round of Premier League fixtures, so can they get back to winning ways after last weekend’s disappointment?

Mauricio Pochettino has an eight-day gap between the 2-2 draw with Sheffield United and the match at home to Everton to work with his squad of players.

We’d like to see him preparing a 21-year-old Chelsea player to make his first competitive start under him.

Cesare Casadei should start against Everton

In our view, Cesare Casadei should be handed his first senior start in Chelsea colours on Monday.

The 21-year-old midfielder has been patiently waiting in reserve since the Blues made the odd decision to recall him from his loan at Leicester City back in January.

While cup tied for domestic cup competitions, he’s only been given four brief cameo appearances in the Premier League.

Our message to Pochettino is to finally promote the Italian youngster to the starting XI for the next game.

We’d start by saying the Chelsea midfield could do with a bit of rotation and fresh legs, with opposition teams running right through us at this moment. On top of that, an injury concern to Enzo Fernandez right now makes the argument to play Casadei even stronger.

Pochettino confirmed in a press conference today that central midfielder Fernandez hasn’t trained and is a doubt to face Everton, as quoted by the club’s official website.

It feels like the perfect opportunity to start Casadei in midfield alongside Moises Caicedo.

Time to make it up to Casadei

We feel like Casadei’s owed a few opportunities from now until the end of the season after putting the brakes on his development midway through the year.

The box-to-box midfielder was getting regular minutes in the Championship with Leicester, but he’s spent the second half of the campaign watching from the bench.

Let’s see what the youngster has got, even if it’s for 60 minute against Everton. Otherwise his recall was a complete waste of time!

The Athletic claimed last month that Chelsea have already made their mind up that they’re likely to be sending Casadei out on loan again next season. It would be great to learn where’s at as a player in the meantime.
