Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher has been set the target to score more goals in the final months of the season.
Blues head coach Mauricio Pochettino thinks his midfield star Conor Gallagher can find the back of the net more often.
The 24-year-old’s been one of the top performers at Chelsea recently, covering every blade of grass when he steps on the pitch.
He’s got four goals and seven assists in 37 appearances across all competitions this season.
Chelsea’s manager has now thrown down the gauntlet to the England international to score more, though.
When discussing Gallagher in today’s press conference, Pochettino said via Chelsea’s YouTube channel: “Now the challenge for him is to score more goals. I think from the beginning of the season it was really tough for him, but now he’s scoring and feels more confident. To grow in this direction is the most important thing for him.”
Conor Gallagher the goalscorer
We agree that Gallagher’s focus should be on scoring more regularly, especially when he’s deployed in the No 10 position.

It’s been a really positive campaign for the box-to-box midfielder as he’s grown into an important Chelsea player, but he can move into the next quality bracket if he just refines one or two areas.
He’s shown in the past, particularly on loan with Crystal Palace, he’s got an eye for a goal. If the Blues star can be a little more composed around the box, we think he gets into enough positions to score a lot of goals.
Speaking via Chelsea’s website this week, Gallagher said himself that he’s got the ability and desire to become a genuine goalscoring midfielder.
Let’s hope that this extra pressure and focus on his goalscoring can result in success.
BBC data records that Gallagher’s had 37 shots so far this season, with a 51 per cent shot accuracy and 11 per cent goal conversion.
