Chelsea will have the chance to strengthen their squad soon with the summer transfer window just around the corner.
If you are a supporter, it is exciting times. However, for some Chelsea players, it may be a bit of a worry.
The arrival of a new centre-forward and left winger, for example, could be bad news for Nicolas Jackson and Mykhailo Mudryk.
That being said, footballers in this day and age are quite flexible and adaptable, so perhaps it is not wise to write off any current Chelsea player just yet.
Where could Chelsea actually strengthen this summer?
It would be a big surprise if Chelsea did not sign a new striker in the upcoming transfer window.
Links with Napoli’s Victor Osimhen will not go away, though it has been claimed that the Blues fear that Paris Saint-Germain are currently the frontrunners for his signature.
Central defender is another area where the club could look to strengthen in the summer.
Thiago Silva has already announced that he will be leaving Stamford Bridge when his contract expires next month.
Mauricio Pochettino should consider changing Nicolas Jackson’s position next season
If Chelsea do go on to sign Osimhen or another elite centre-forward, then Jackson is likely to be the casualty.
The 22-year-old does not have to be, though, and maybe he should not. Jackson has proven this season that he is good enough to play for Chelsea. It is just a question of whether he can be prolific enough to be their first-choice striker.
If not, rather than just discard him, perhaps Mauricio Pochettino could move Jackson to the left flank. He has already played there during this campaign and as just mentioned, the £32m Senegal international does look capable of playing at this level.
Jackson has scored 16 goals in all competitions this term and over the last year, he has ranked in the 87th percentile for successful take-ons among forwards (FBref).
The Chelsea star is direct and can dribble, which you want from a winger, and is capable of scoring goals.
Next season, then, maybe it does not have to be Jackson or Osimhen. Maybe it can be Jackson and Osimhen.
