Paris Saint-Germain boss Christophe Galtier has reportedly been taken into police custody over allegations of discrimination and racism during his time as Nice coach.

The 56-year-old has been accused of saying there were too many black and Muslim players at the club.

The Nice prosecution office subsequently launched a preliminary investigation into ‘discrimination based on alleged race or religion’, while PSG launched their own internal probe in April.

According to Le Parisien, the Frenchman has now been taken into police custody alongside son John Valovic-Galtier.

Galtier categorically denied the accusations at the time and proceeded to take legal action over those he claimed were smearing his name.

“I was stunned by the comments that were attributed to me and that were relayed in an irresponsible manner,” Galtier said.

“I have decided to take legal action against those who have violated my honour and I can only be satisfied with the opening of an investigation.”

“I am a child of the estates raised in diversity, raised to respect others no matter their origin, their colour or their religion.”

Galtier is set to be axed as PSG head coach in the coming days as the French champions prepare to welcome in former Barcelona boss Luis Enrique.

The Frenchman looked set to take over the vacant managerial post at Italian champions Napoli earlier this month but was beaten to the line by compatriot Rudi Garcia.

Galtier was Alain Perrin’s assistant at Portsmouth in 2005 before going on to forge a management career of his own.
