Chelsea are reportedly looking to South America again to bolster their squad with an eye to the future.

It has been a key part of the club’s policy ever since Todd Boehly and the new owners took over that they continue to invest heavily in the future.

The highlight additions made up to now have been both Estevao Willian and Kendry Paez. Ecuador international Paez continued to smash records with his recent goal at the Copa America.

The Blues have also reportedly agreed a deal to sign Aaron Anselmino, with it looking as if he could be in for a short loan spell back to Argentina.

Now, it looks as if they are hoping to add another young name from South America to their ranks in the form of Gabriel Mec from Gremio.

Chelsea want Gabriel Mec

According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea consider the youngster as a real star for the future.

He said: “Understand Chelsea have genuine interest in Gremio talent Gabriel Mec. He’s considered as one more gem from Brazil; Chelsea have opened talks to understand deal conditions.

“Born in 2008, Gabriel Mec is appreciated by many clubs but Chelsea are pushing.”

Gabriel could join plenty of youngsters at Chelsea

Of all the youngsters signed by the club in the last two years or so, the one closest at the minute to joining up and competing for minutes with the first team is Andrey Santos.

After a successful loan spell away at Strasbourg, Santos now has a great opportunity to impress decision makers at the club on the upcoming pre-season tour of the United States.

There will no doubt be some who are far more keen for the club to be making signings that are going to immediately impact the first team at Stamford Bridge.

So far the marquee addition on that front has been Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who joins up again with former manager Enzo Maresca after their successful season together at Leicester City last season.

Sources have been impressed with Tosin Adarabioyo in his first few training sessions at the club, suggesting that he has accustomed to life on the Blue side of West London pretty well.
