One former Chelsea player has now admitted he could have left the club in the past in favour of playing under Jurgen Klopp.
Kevin de Bruyne told TNT Sports that he had the chance to move to Borussia Dortmund when he was at Stamford Bridge, however it was Jose Mourinho who kept him at the club.
De Bruyne has gone on to become one of the best players in the world in recent years, winning the treble last season with Manchester City.
There will be many Chelsea fans who will be wondering why he was not given the opportunity to express this at Stamford Bridge.
The Belgian was sold to Werder Bremen, where he made his mark before returning to the Premier League.
De Bruyne has now stated that he may have been a bit impatient in his decision to leave the club, however Mourinho had stopped him from making a move to join up with another top coach.
De Bruyne says he could’ve played under Klopp
He said: “I signed for Chelsea knowing I would be loaned out the first year, and if I do really well we’ll see what happens. Went to Werder Bremen, had a really good year. But then in the summer it was a bit of a toss-up. I could’ve gone to Dortmund with Klopp at the time or stay, and Jose wanted me to stay.

“It just didn’t work out, I was maybe a little bit impatient at the time also, but I just wanted to play football. I had the confidence – I know there’s a lot of good players there and I understand how it works for the young guys. I didn’t want that situation anymore, so I pushed a little bit to get sold.”
Instead of working together, De Bruyne has spent most of his time back in England working against Klopp in a bid to win the Premier League.
The two sides have had some excellent, high-quality affairs that have decided the destinations of the title in seasons gone by, and their meeting at Anfield this Sunday will perhaps be another in that series.
Chelsea meanwhile will be waiting until Monday night before they restart their quest to climb the table, as they host Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge.
