England take on Brazil this evening in a high-profile international friendly, so we thought we’d take a look at some of the best Samba stars to ever play club football for Chelsea.

There’s been some excellent Brazilian stars walk through the door at Stamford Bridge over the years and get supporters off their seats.

The Chelsea Chronicle has picked out the top five Brazilian individuals to ever play for the Blues.

We hope South American youngsters such as Angelo Gabriel and Andrey Santos, two Chelsea-owned talents out on loan right now, one day find their way on to this top five list.

5. Oscar

Oscar, who’s still only 32 and currently playing in China, sneaks into this list at fifth.

The attacking midfielder is someone that maybe didn’t live up to his full potential, but it’s still quite an impressive CV he’s got from his time in west London.

He scored 38 goals and made 37 assists in 203 Blues appearances. He’s got two Premier Leagues, one League Cup and one Europa League to celebrate.

4. David Luiz

We’ve gone with the charismatic David Luiz in fourth for his contribution to Chelsea.

The 36-year-old centre-back, who’s also still playing in his homeland Brazil, earned the tag of a real fan favourite by the end of 248 matches in blue.

He was part of the iconic squad that won Chelsea their first Champions League in 2012. On top of that, he also won a Premier League, two Europa Leagues and two FA Cups with us.

Yes, he was rash at times and unpredictable. But on his day, he was a classy defender that played for the badge.

Incidentally, speaking via Chelsea’s official website last year, Axel Disasi shared he loved watching “crazy” David Luiz play for Chelsea.

3. Ramires

Our third place and first spot on the podium goes to one of Chelsea’s most underrated players ever.

Ramires, now retired, was a special all-action central midfielder.

He was the definition of energy, accompanied with real aggression, during 251 Blues games.

Not typically Brazilian with his style of play, but Chelsea fans that got to watch him live enjoyed a real treat.

He completed the set of winning one Champions League, one Europa League, one Premier League, one FA Cup, one League Cup.

2. Willian

Willian, who perhaps didn’t always get the appreciation he deserved during seven years at Chelsea, can be very proud of what he achieved at our club.

It’s a testament to his endurance and skill that the 35-year-old South America winger is still ripping it up in England’s top division with neighbours Fulham.

His trophy haul as a Chelsea player is the Premier League (twice), FA Cup, Europa League, League Cup. Also, he won the club’s Player of the Year award twice (2016 + 2018).

He ended up with a decent return of 63 goals and 62 assists in 339 appearances for Chelsea. That doesn’t quantify how much he did bring to the team with his work on and off the ball.

1. Thiago Silva

Thiago Silva sits top of the pile at number one. The main reason being he’s been inspirational since he joined on a free transfer a few years ago.

Now into his fourth season as a Blues star, the legendary 39-year-old defender is still contributing this season.

He’s not quite got the medals in a Chelsea shirt to match some of the above, but he was integral in winning the club’s second ever Champions League in 2021.

The level of his performances makes him a true great of this club. Just imagine if we’d got the former Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan star earlier in his career.

Speaking via Hayters TV in January, Silva hinted he’s leaving Chelsea this summer when his contract ends.
