Chelsea could have an advantage over some clubs in the race for one striker this summer.

Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres, who has had spells at Coventry City, Brighton & Hove Albion and Swansea City, considers England as his second home, according to Calciomercato.

It could be good news for Chelsea, with the same outlet claiming that the Blues tried to sign the forward with a €100m (£85.5m) release clause last month.

Ultimately, there does seem to be interest in Gyokeres from Chelsea, but it remains to be seen whether they would actually be willing to trigger his release clause, which is not a low one to say the least.

Gyokeres has been in incredible form for Sporting this season, scoring 30 goals in 33 appearances.

Chelsea could bring Viktor Gyokeres back to England

Gyokeres has not been away from England for that long, but he has been so good in Portugal that a couple of the biggest clubs in the Premier League now look to be keen on him.

According to the Daily Mail, the Sweden international is also on Arsenal’s radar.

Gyokeres never made an appearance in the Premier League during his time in England. However, he tore up the Championship, scoring 21 league goals in his last season at Coventry.

It was the Championship, though, which is not one of Europe’s top leagues. It means Chelsea’s interest largely stems from what he has done in Portugal.

There, Gyokeres has clearly done a good job, though it still feels a bit too soon to be dropping nearly £90m on him.

Chelsea need to improve their team, however. Under Mauricio Pochettino, they are currently 11th in the table.

Bringing in a reliable goalscorer could help them to do the above, but it looks like that will set them back a lot of money as they continue to target pricey forwards like Gyokeres.
