Chelsea may now have to give serious consideration to replacing Mauricio Pochettino, if they were not already.

Mauricio Pochettino has just overseen a huge defeat, with Chelsea losing 5-0 to Arsenal last night.

It comes after elimination from the FA Cup last weekend, which ensured that the Blues will finish this season trophyless.

They remain three points behind sixth-placed Newcastle United following their hammering at the Emirates yesterday, and the Magpies have the chance to increase that gap tonight when they take on Crystal Palace.

Things are not looking good for Pochettino, who could be removed from his position at the end of the season.

Chelsea have their No.1 choice to replace Mauricio Pochettino

If Chelsea really do decide to make a change, it looks like they may have already identified their ideal candidate to succeed Pochettino.

According to CaughtOffside, the Blues consider Brighton & Hove Albion’s Roberto De Zerbi as their first option in the event that Pochettino is sacked.

And it appears that they may be able to lure him away from the Amex Stadium.

The same outlet claims that De Zerbi is convinced that Chelsea could be a good destination for him this summer.

Should Roberto De Zerbi be Chelsea’s No.1 target to replace Mauricio Pochettino?

You can see why Chelsea would target De Zerbi. The Italian has quickly proven himself in the Premier League, guiding Brighton to sixth last season, six places above the Blues.

Maybe he could be the man to get the best out of this young Chelsea team, already working with Mykhailo Mudryk, one of the club’s most expensive ever signings.

Looking at where Chelsea currently are and where they are trying to get to, though, at this point, they just need to bring in a proven winner if Pochettino does get dismissed, someone like Thomas Tuchel. That, however, seems very unlikely for obvious reasons.
