The signing of Nicolas Jackson is proving a better piece of business for Chelsea this season with every passing game.
The Senegal international was at the double in yesterday’s comprehensive victory against London rivals West Ham, winning 5-0 at Stamford Bridge.
Jackson set up the opener for Cole Palmer in the early stages, before the Blues ran riot and put the game beyond doubt in the first half.
The 22-year-old added to the first half lead with a brace in the second half, converting the second off the back of a brilliant assist from Moises Caicedo.
People in the game have not been afraid to send criticism the way of the forward for some of his worse moments. However, he continues to play a crucial role in attacks at Stamford Bridge.
Jackson with more non-penalty goals than Palmer and Havertz
According to Squawka, he has now registered more non-penalty goals than former Blue Kai Havertz, as well as teammate Palmer.
The England international has obviously gained a lot of attention this season for his sensational performances in his first season at the club.
His strike yesterday made it 21 goals in the Premier League this season, although he does look as if he is going to fall short of Erling Haaland after his four goals over the weekend.
Jackson’s tally of 13 should certainly not be sniffed at though, and his role should leave those who look at signings thinking again as to whether a striker is a priority to bring in this summer.
It was claimed over the weekend that the club had made their first contact over a potential deal for Victor Osimhen, who is expected to be on the move this summer.
However, the potential fee being discussed is a high one, and Jackson should feel like he is doing a lot right at the moment to prove he can be the answer.
