The latest transfer rumours are now linking Chelsea with a high-profile defender that’s previously earned big praise from Carlo Ancelotti.
It’s been a very challenging season so far for Chelsea’s defence, which is best highlighted by the fact that they’ve conceded 47 goals in 28 Premier League matches so far.
Blues head coach Mauricio Pochettino doesn’t really have a settled backline. Plus, it’s far too easy for opposition teams to attack us.
Ben Jacobs told GiveMeSport a few days ago that Chelsea have always been planning to sign a new central defender this summer.
There’s now speculation that the Blues are looking at a new left-back.
Chelsea linked with La Liga star
Chelsea are apparently one of the clubs interested in signing Real Madrid’s Ferland Mendy.
Mundo Deportivo claims this week that Chelsea, Manchester United and Bayern Munich are all interested in signing Ferland Mendy.

It is explained that Alphonso Davies is tipped with a move to the Bernabeu, which would surely lead to the departure of Madrid defender Mendy.
The £171,000-a-week left-back (Salary Sport) has been in Madrid since 2019 and achieved some great things to boast quite a list of achievements.
- X1 Champions League
- X2 La Liga
- X1 UEFA Super Cup
- X1 Spanish Cup
- X3 Spanish Super Cup
Carlo Ancelotti endorsement
Mendy’s played 162 games in total as a Real Madrid player. Over half of them have been under Carlo Ancelotti’s management as well (92 matches).
Therefore, it’s no surprise that the Madrid boss has said some nice things about him in the past. One comment from the former Chelsea boss definitely stands out.
Speaking in March 2023 (One Football), Ancelotti described Mendy as a “very strong defender”.
We agree that the fast and athletic full-back defends well 1v1, so is the type of Chelsea signing that makes sense this summer. There’s tough competition for his signature, though.
You could definitely argue that he’s an upgrade at left-back on both Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella.
