Chelsea are reportedly ready to make a move for a new goalkeeper despite not having a manager.

The Blues are without a man for the dugout following Mauricio Pochettino‘s departure by mutual consent earlier this week.

Nevertheless, Chelsea still look to be working on transfers ahead of the window opening next month.

Chelsea signed two goalkeepers last summer, Djordje Petrovic and Robert Sanchez, but appear to be in the market for another one.

Petrovic finished the season as the team’s No.1 and admitted he was surprised by the amount of minutes he got this term.

Chelsea set to win race for Premier League goalkeeper?

Petrovic’s game time could decrease in the next campaign if reports are to be believed.

According to The Sun, Chelsea are ready to make a £20m move for Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford.

Newcastle United are also thought to be interested in the 21-year-old, but the same outlet claims that sources close to the deal think the Blues will win the race for him.

Trafford made 28 appearances in the Premier League this season as Burnley went on to get relegated.

However, it looks like the Englishman could get the chance to remain in the top flight.

James Trafford in the England squad

Trafford has been called up to England’s preliminary squad for Euro 2024.

When that squad gets cut down for the tournament, though, you suspect that the Burnley star will be one of the names to miss the final cut.

He is currently competing against Jordan Pickford, Aaron Ramsdale and Dean Henderson for a spot, much more experienced goalkeepers.

A move to Chelsea could perhaps help Trafford retain a place in the England squad in the future.

There, he will be playing at a very high level and in Europe, though the shot-stopper would have to settle for the Europa Conference League next season following Manchester United’s FA Cup triumph on Saturday.
