Dan Ashworth could ruin Chelsea’s transfer plans if he is appointed Manchester United sporting director before the summer.
Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi is a player who Ashworth wanted to bring to Newcastle United and he could now revive his interest in him at Old Trafford, according to The Telegraph.
United and Newcastle are yet to agree a fee for Ashworth to take up the sporting director job at the Red Devils, though.
Guehi is also thought to be one central defender who is currently on Chelsea’s list. Football.london claimed last month that the 23-year-old is an option for the Blues, who initially sold him to Palace in 2021.
According to TEAMtalk, the Eagles value Guehi at £60m.
Chelsea face battle with Manchester United and Liverpool for Marc Guehi
As well as United, Liverpool could also make a move for Guehi in the summer, The Telegraph reports.
The Reds are likely to be in the Champions League, unlike Chelsea, so that could give them an upper hand over their Premier League rivals.

Coming through the Chelsea academy, though, the England international obviously has a connection to the club. Perhaps it will be enough to convince him to join the Blues over Liverpool and United.
However, while Guehi may be on Chelsea’s list, there is no guarantee that they will actually make a move for him.
It has been reported that Sporting Lisbon’s Ousmane Diomande is the club’s top defensive target going into the summer transfer window.
Whoever comes in will have to fight for a place in Mauricio Pochettino‘s starting XI. The Argentine already has some good centre-back options in the likes of Axel Disasi and Levi Colwill.
There is Thiago Silva, too, though it looks like he will be departing Stamford Bridge at the end of the season when his contract expires. Benoit Badiashile and Wesley Fofana are two more names as well; they just need to stay fit, which they have failed to do this term.
