New Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has no doubt put in plenty of work to look at the current squad ahead of taking over at the start of this month.

Players have begun to filter back into the training ground ahead of the real work of pre-season getting underway.

New signing Tosin Adarabioyo was seen in action for the first time since joining the club on a free.

Defence is a position that there are a lot of questions over in terms of who will be on the pitch when they welcome Manchester City to Stamford Bridge for the first game of the campaign.

One player who many expect to be featuring one way or another is Levi Colwill, despite the fact he has been reportedly wanted by the likes of Bayern Munich and Liverpool this summer.

In his first season as a Chelsea first team player, he found a lot of his minutes coming at left-back in the absence of Ben Chilwell through injury with Mauricio Pochettino charge.

Many were of the belief that he was not able to play his best football in that role, and it seems as if Maresca agrees with this.

Maresca to start Levi Colwill at centre-back

According to The Telegraph, he is set to feature in a centre-back role for the Blues this season, potentially in a wide variation of that role.

He has previously been described by as ‘versatile’ by former teammate Lewis Dunk, and can no doubt do a job in a number of positions across the backline.

However, playing at the heart of defence no doubt suits his strengths the best, and will allow him to show why many see him as the future at Stamford Bridge.

With reports that he is being earmarked as a potential captain in the coming years at the club, things certainly look bright for the young man right now.
