Mauricio Pochettino is considering changing Chelsea’s system in a bid to save their season.
Chelsea have conceded eight goals in their last two Premier League games, losing 4-2 to Wolverhampton Wanderers over the weekend.
According to the Evening Standard, Mauricio Pochettino is now thinking about switching the Blues to a back three.
The Argentine has mainly used a 4-2-3-1 formation this season, but with his side conceding so many goals at the moment, moving to a back three could be a good idea.
Chelsea play Liverpool again in the Carabao Cup final at the end of the month after losing 4-1 at Anfield last week. It is the kind of game where Pochettino will want to be even more cautious, especially after what happened on Merseyside.
Mauricio Pochettino considering formation change
This season, especially in these last two games, nothing has worked for Chelsea. It is only logical now for Pochettino to consider some sort of shake up.
Getting three central defenders on the pitch and in their correct positions, let’s say Thiago Silva, Axel Disasi and Benoit Badiashile, for example, should improve the Blues defensively.

Playing three at the back would also allow Ben Chilwell and Malo Gusto to start as wing-backs, with the former having really thrived as one at Stamford Bridge.
Alongside Reece James, he was so key for former manager Thomas Tuchel in that position, helping Chelsea to win the Champions League back in 2021.
It is do or die now for Pochettino. The club are reportedly considering sacking him after the team’s latest humiliation. The Argentine has to stop the bleeding and get Chelsea winning again, and using a three-man defence could be his best chance of doing that.
Whether it is formation or personnel, the former Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham Hotspur boss has to change something.
