Of all the players who have enjoyed a turn in form at Chelsea recently, none have had a better time of things than Marc Cucurella.

A few weeks ago it felt he was only featuring because of a lack of other options, with vice-captain Ben Chilwell struggling with injuries again.

However, ever since his change of role he has been arguably the most important player in Mauricio Pochettino’s side, featuring in an inverted left-back role.

The shift has allowed him to get the best out of his positive attributes, including his passing and ability to win the ball back in the middle of the park.

This has allowed for him to put in consecutive performances of the highest quality, undoubtedly his best since joining the club.

Chelsea insiders delighted for Cucurella

It has been reported by the Mail Online that insiders at the club are absolutely delighted for Cucurella, stating just how popular he is amongst his teammates.

The piece goes on to say that using the traditional left-back as more of a midfielder has actually been something Pochettino has been considering doing for some time, however didn’t do so until they were 2-0 down against Aston Villa.

Crazy to sell Cucurella this summer

It was reported at the start of the season that the Blues were open to his departure on loan, even offering him to Manchester United as their hunt for a left-back went on.

Now though, it would look a foolish idea to move the Spain international on like it was originally reported they wanted to do at the end of the season.

With three games left to go this season, and European football looking a possibility at last, it would be a huge blow if Cucurella was unable to feature for any of those games, with his importance on par with Moises Caicedo in midfield up to now.
