Chelsea look like they will end this transfer window with at least one new striker in their squad.

The Blues are thought to be close to signing Barcelona youngster Marc Guiu, with Fabrizio Romano claiming that they have now informed his club that they are going to trigger his release clause.

Still just 18 years of age, Guiu is probably not going to be the solution for Chelsea next season.

It is hard to imagine the teenager taking some of the pressure off Nicolas Jackson.

There is no reason for Chelsea supporters to panic yet, though.

Marc Guiu may not be Chelsea’s second-choice striker next season

While Guiu could come in and offer some support to Jackson, whom Chelsea heavily relied on last season, that does not seem to be the plan for him at the moment.

According to the Evening Standard, the Blues still want to strengthen their forward line after they sign the Spaniard.

The outlet claims that Chelsea are weighing up a move for Lille’s Jonathan David, though they face competition from some of their Premier League rivals.

Guiu, then, will probably be one for the future, unless Chelsea fail to sign another No.9.

Chelsea could be taking a risk with Marc Guiu

There is nothing wrong with signing Guiu with the future in mind.

But if the club are prepared to make him the No.2 behind Jackson next season, then they are asking for trouble.

Again, Guiu is only a teenager with no experience in the Premier League or much in La Liga.

David, who has proven himself in Ligue 1, would obviously be a much safer bet. The Canada international scored 19 goals last season and 24 the campaign before that.

It has got to be David and Guiu and not just Guiu for Chelsea this summer. And if they cannot sign the former for whatever reason, then they have to target another experienced centre-forward. That will give Jackson real support next term.
