The season is about to end, but things are finally starting to pick up for Chelsea.
After wins against Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United, Chelsea are now seventh in the Premier League table.
A few months ago, that would have been unimaginable.
For the majority of the campaign, Mauricio Pochettino‘s men have been poor, never really being in the race for Champions League football.
The above may partly be down to Pochettino’s training methods.
Mauricio Pochettino’s training methods at Chelsea this season
Sources close to Chelsea recently spoke to The Athletic about life at Cobham following Pochettino’s arrival.
They claim that Pochettino’s training methods have been underwhelming.
Maybe they have been, but it is clear that whatever the Argentine has been doing with his players in recent weeks has been working.
Before their 5-0 win against West Ham, the Blues beat Tottenham 2-0 in another London derby.
Chelsea also came close to defeating Aston Villa 3-2 the game before their victory over Spurs, with Axel Disasi having a last-minute goal disallowed by the VAR because of a foul in the build-up to it.
Should Chelsea sack Mauricio Pochettino following West Ham and Tottenham wins?
Chelsea have missed out on Champions League qualification and Pochettino is about to enter the final year of his contract, so his job in the Stamford Bridge dugout does not look entirely safe.
However, the Argentine probably deserves to start next season as Chelsea boss, especially after the Blues’ last two wins.
Their performances against two strong Premier League sides were excellent and have taken the club into the final European spot, above Manchester United.
It has obviously not been the perfect campaign, but Chelsea are starting to show progression under Pochettino.
Sign a top centre-forward like Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, who continues to be linked with a move to west London, and Pochettino may be able to guide Chelsea back into the top four next term.
