Simon Jordan has been speaking about the imminent appointment of Enzo Maresca as Chelsea manager.

Enzo Maresca is close to becoming the next Chelsea boss after Mauricio Pochettino‘s departure last month, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that he has agreed a five-year deal with the Blues.

It is a gamble, as Maresca is still early into his managerial career and is yet to manage in the Premier League.

However, it is a gamble that co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley and co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali seem prepared to take.

While Stewart and Winstanley were responsible for identifying Maresca as the ideal candidate to replace Pochettino, Boehly and Eghbali are the ones who have given the all-clear to bring him in.

Simon Jordan does not want Enzo Maresca to take all of the blame

If things do not go to plan for Maresca at Chelsea, Jordan does not think all of the fingers should be pointed at him.

As the club’s owners, Boehly and Eghbali are also likely to face a lot of backlash if the Italian fails in west London.

Jordan, though, thinks Chelsea’s sporting directors need to be held accountable if this appointment does not work out.

Speaking on talkSPORT, the former Crystal Palace owner said: “If they get it wrong, then they need to be held accountable.

“The guys like Winstanley. If you’re going to use him as intellectual capital, if they get Maresca in and he proves to be a failure, they’re the ones that have got to go as well.”

Who are Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart?

Winstanley and Stewart are Chelsea’s two sporting directors who have been responsible for recruitment and the hiring of managers since joining the club.

The former arrived from Brighton & Hove Albion, while Chelsea got the latter from AS Monaco.

With Pochettino departing Stamford Bridge after just one season, a season where the Blues managed to get back into Europe, pressure is on them.

They really need Maresca to work out, otherwise Chelsea supporters are not going to be happy.
