Former Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante was on the losing side in the first Euro 2024 semi-final.

N’Golo Kante‘s France took on Spain, losing 2-1 despite taking the lead through Randal Kolo Muani in the first half.

Overall, he performed well during the tournament, with Paul Merson claiming that Kante has been “outstanding”.

According to WhoScored, the 33-year-old made two tackles per game in Germany, which was the second-highest average in France’s squad.

However, something disappointing happened to him for the first time in his career on Tuesday.

France’s defeat to Spain a significant one for N’Golo Kante

Since becoming a France international, Kante has been such an important player for his country.

Of course, he spent some time away from his national team during a period where he could just not stay fit.

But whenever Kante has been around, he has been key for Didier Deschamps’s side, helping them to be a success.

However, as shared by TNT Sports, Tuesday’s defeat against Spain saw Kante lose his first ever game for France at a major tournament.

N’Golo Kante helped Chelsea to be successful

Just like with France, Kante also made Chelsea a successful team.

During his time at Stamford Bridge, the Blues were able to win several honours, including the Premier League title and Champions League trophy.

Following his departure, they have just not had that kind of success. They have come nowhere near it.

Supporters will now be hoping that Moises Caicedo can step into that role, which certainly looks possible.

The Ecuadorian finished last season strongly, proving to be a real combative presence in the middle of the park. For example, in Chelsea’s final game, in which he scored an incredible goal, Caicedo made six tackles — no player on the pitch made more on the day.

Chelsea fans will want to see more of that on a consistent basis under Enzo Maresca in the 2024/25 campaign.
