Micah Richards has explained why he’s a huge admirer of Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi.

This should definitely interest Chelsea fans amid speculation that the Blues are considering hiring the 44-year-old coach.

Roberto De Zerbi, who’s been at Brighton since 2022, has certainly enhanced his reputation during his time at the Amex Stadium with an eye-catching brand of football.

The Guardian claimed this week that Chelsea are considering hiring De Zerbi as their next manager if they decide to get rid of Mauricio Pochettino as the current boss. They add that the Blues still plan to wait until the summer before reviewing Mauricio Pochettino’s position.

The Guardian recently claimed that Liverpool have De Zerbi as a potential successor for Jugren Klopp if they can’t get Xabi Alonso this summer.

Pundit Micah Richards has shared why he thinks De Zerbi is a fantastic manager already with a big future ahead of him.

When asked about speculation linking Liverpool with De Zerbi, Richards told The Rest Is Football Podcast: “I think he’s got the ability. I think he’s a top manager.

“… He’s got something special. He’s a bit like not Pep [Guardiola] in terms of quality, but the way they see the game. They’re always trying to forward think in terms of what can I do differently and tactically.

“Sometimes it can be seen as too much but when it works it really does work for him. I think he’s got all the attributes to be a top, top manager.”

Roberto De Zerbi on Chelsea radar

Will the Blues really go after yet another raid on Brighton?

Our fear is De Zerbi is still unproven at the very top level, something Graham Potter struggled with when he made the jump from Brighton to Chelsea.

If Chelsea do decide to go in a different direction from Pochettino, we’re sceptical about De Zerbi despite the good things he’s done at Brighton. The reality is the Blues are only three points behind Brighton in the league table this season having played a game less as well.
