Chelsea’s transfer business has really been scrutinised since the club were taken over by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital.

Chelsea did not do anything in the last transfer window, but the few before that, they were heavily spenders.

For example, last summer, the Blues signed Moises Caicedo from Brighton & Hove Albion for £115m and bought Axel Disasi from AS Monaco in a £38.8m deal.

TalkSPORT pundit Andy Jacobs was very critical of the latter when he first arrived.

However, Disasi has easily been one of Boehly and Clearlake‘s more successful signings and one of Chelsea’s top performers this season.

What did Andy Jacobs say about Axel Disasi?

Back in August, Jacobs did not hold back when he gave his thoughts on Chelsea’s decision to bring Disasi to Stamford Bridge.

Playing on his name, Jacobs labelled the central defender a “disaster”, questioning why he was brought in when the club already had Trevoh Chalobah.

On Disasi, he said: “You’ve bought this bloke Disasi, disaster. Is he better than Chalobah? Looking at him he isn’t. So why have you bought him?”

It is fair to say, at least at the time anyway, that the talkSPORT pundit was not impressed with the 26-year-old.

Axel Disasi has been anything but a disaster

Even the biggest Axel Disasi fan will admit that the Frenchman has produced a few comical moments this season.

His recent own goal in Chelsea’s 4-2 win against Leicester City, for example, was a moment of pure madness — one that was quickly forgiven by goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, however.

Overall, though, Disasi has been one of Mauricio Pochettino‘s most important players this term. In fact, according to WhoScored, he has racked up the most amount of Premier League minutes in the Argentine’s squad.

Also per WhoScored, Disasi is winning 2.5 aerial duels per game in the top flight, putting him above all of his team-mates once again.

The France international has chipped in with a few goals as well, scoring on his debut, a 1-1 draw with Liverpool at the very beginning of the campaign.

Ultimately, it has been quite a good debut season for Disasi. Jacobs called him a disaster at the start of it, but that has just not been the case.

The former Monaco star is not the perfect defender yet. We saw that when Chelsea played Leicester in the FA Cup quarter-finals last weekend. However, he has shown his worth this term and has looked worth the £39m Chelsea invested in him last summer.
