Pundit Craig Burley has stated that he believes one former Chelsea player must really regret leaving the club last summer.

There was quite the clearout of players at Stamford Bridge at the beginning of this season, with a large quantity of those being figures who had made a big impact on the first team.

Some of those moves have worked out better than others. It is fair to say that Kai Havertz is now playing his best football in the Premier League after moving across London to Arsenal last summer.

There are others who have struggled for minutes for various reasons this season, and one of those has been Mason Mount, who left for a fee of £60m.

The Englishman has just one goal to his name since making the move, with his Manchester United side actually sitting below Chelsea in the table for the first time in quite a while.

There was no happy return for him at Stamford Bridge this year either, with Cole Palmer inspiring a thrilling 4-3 comeback win.

Burley says Mount must regret leaving Chelsea

Burley has now told ESPN that he believes Mount may be regretting his decision to not sign a new contract to remain in West London.

He said: “Mason Mount, obviously he’s had an injury ravaged season, but even when he’s been fit he looks like who’s like oh my god I’ve just made one of the biggest… Not that Chelsea are great, they’re not.

“But as a player you make a decision and how decision he thought was going to a club that were on the front foot. Whilst he’s been poor himself and he’s been out, he’s got to be thinking to himself I’ve made a terrible move here.”

Cole Palmer ready to feature for England

With Mount’s England prospects out the window as far as this summer’s European Championships go, his loss is Palmer’s gain off the back of his fantastic season.

The 22-year-old was last night named the double Player of the Season at the club’s awards night, putting him in elite company with the likes of Eden Hazard for players who have picked up two awards in one night.
