Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino was asked about Moises Caicedo’s performance against Aston Villa last night specifically.

It has not been an easy season for Moises Caicedo at Chelsea following his record move from Brighton & Hove Albion last summer.

The midfielder and Chelsea have struggled as a whole this term, with Pochettino’s men currently sitting ninth in the Premier League table.

Earlier this month, former West Ham United player Nigel Reo-Coker said he could not see a midfield relationship between Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez.

Caicedo and Fernandez will not able to work on their partnership until next season after the latter had to undergo surgery.

Mauricio Pochettino on Moises Caicedo

Despite going 2-0 down and dropping more points, Pochettino felt his side performance against Villa was a good one.

He was also impressed with Caicedo.

When asked about the Ecuadorian’s display, the Chelsea manager told football.london and the rest of the English media: “Not only Moi, I thought the team was good.

“The performance was good from the whole team. But Moi was also good.”

Moises Caicedo’s numbers against Aston Villa

Pochettino is probably right to be pleased with Caicedo’s latest outing. It was definitely one of his better games in a Chelsea shirt.

According to WhoScored, Caicedo made five tackles, the second most in his team. He also completed 71 passes, putting him in the top five for accurate passes.

The Ecuador international is the most expensive signing in Chelsea’s history. Pochettino needs to see him doing the above way more often, especially between now and the end of the season.

With Fernandez out injured, Caicedo is now the main man in midfield.

Next up for the former Brighton star and Chelsea is a London derby against Tottenham Hotspur. It will be another tricky fixture, but Pochettino’s side need three points in order to keep their hopes of European football alive.

But with Tottenham still trying to qualify for the Champions League, they will be putting everything into this game as well.
