Reigning world champions the USA will begin their 2023 Women’s World Cup campaign against Vietnam this week.

The United States have dominated this competition and are the most successful team of all time with four World Cup titles to their name.

Vlatko Andonovski’s side have won the last two tournaments, with a 2-0 win over the Netherlands meaning they defended their crown four years ago. 

And the Stars and Stripes are back once again as favourites as they aim to make it a three-peat, beginning their journey against Vietnam.

USA vs Vietnam: Date and how to follow 

This Group E clash will take place on Saturday, July 22. 

Kick-off at Eden Park is scheduled for 2am UK time.

It is being shown BBC One.

For 14 players of Andonovski’s squad, this will be their first ever World Cup, with young star Trinity Rodman among those making their competition debut. 

Meanwhile, veterans Megan Rapinoe and Alex Morgan are also competing in Australia and New Zealand this summer.

USA vs Vietnam: What has been said? 

USA star Megan Rapinoe has confirmed that this will be her final World Cup as she plans to retire at the end of the season.

Speaking in a press conference, Rapinoe confirmed: “It is with a really deep sense of peace and gratitude and excitement that I want to share with you guys that this will be my last season, my last World Cup and my last NWSL season.

“I could have never imagined where this beautiful game would have taken me.

“I feel so honoured to have represented this country and this federation for so many years, it’s truly been the greatest thing.”
