Going into the summer, the futures of several Chelsea players are currently up in the air.

For example, there is a bit of uncertainty surrounding Raheem Sterling right now.

Sterling has started Chelsea‘s last three Premier League matches on the bench and has been linked with a move to MLS.

His team-mate Thiago Silva could also be leaving Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.

Silva’s £110,000-a-week contract (Spotrac) expires in the summer and he is not any closer to signing a new one. According to journalist Mike McGrath, some in the Chelsea squad were keen for him to make a return to the first team yesterday in the Blues’ 2-2 draw with Sheffield United.

Chelsea need to discuss player’s future

There could be quite a few high-profile exits at Stamford Bridge in the next transfer window, then.

Right now, Silva looks likely to be one of those, though Mauricio Pochettino says the central defender’s future still needs to be discussed.

Speaking about him after Chelsea’s draw with Sheffield United, the Argentine told football.london and other outlets: “I think it’s a thing that at the moment, so far, we are not talking about the future of the player in the squad.

“That is a decision the club needs to ask, we need to talk and agree the future. He is one of the players we need to discuss. Nothing so far.”

Thiago Silva’s goal against Sheffield United

Silva was able to score upon his return to the Chelsea team, a nice volley from a corner in the first half.

However, while Pochettino has said that the club need to discuss his future, that goal and his overall performance are unlikely to change anything.

After four years at Chelsea, it really does look like Silva will be leaving west London at the end of the season.

His departure will not leave Pochettino short of options, though. The Argentine will still have the likes of Axel Disasi, Levi Colwill and Benoit Badiashile to turn to.
