Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has made his feelings clear to Todd Boehly and the rest of the Blues board.
It has been a largely disappointing season for Chelsea and Mauricio Pochettino, but they have really turned things around recently.
After solid wins against West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur, the Blues have now moved up to seventh in the Premier League table.
If they finish there and Manchester United go on to lose the FA Cup final versus Manchester City, that will guarantee them a place in next season’s Europa Conference League.
Of course, Chelsea would have wanted to secure Champions League qualification. But given that they have been in 10th place for most of the campaign, supporters would probably take seventh right now.
Mauricio Pochettino makes feelings clear to Chelsea board
Chelsea have had a lot of poor results this season, such as their 2-2 draw with bottom-of-the-table Sheffield United, and are not in the top four, so Pochettino does look to be under a bit of pressure.
However, according to HITC, the Argentine believes he is the right man to take Chelsea forward and has made that clear to his superiors.
With Pochettino approaching the final 12 months of his two-year contract, it would be easy for the club to dismiss him at the end of the season.
Based on recent performances, though, that would be quite harsh.
Is Mauricio Pochettino the right man to take Chelsea forward?
Possibly. While Pochettino has obviously not always got the results he has wanted, the 52-year-old has developed a lot of these young Chelsea players.
The likes of Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson have done pretty well since arriving at Stamford Bridge, for example.
Palmer has scored 24 goals for Chelsea this season — something no one probably saw coming — after netting just once last term as a fringe player in Manchester City’s squad.
As for Jackson, the 22-year-old is on 16, meaning that he has also surpassed his 2022/23 tally.
At this point, Pochettino probably has done enough to get into the next year of his contract. And if his players continue to improve under him, then he could be the man to take the club forward.
