Chelsea may not have to convince one of their reported targets to leave his current club in the summer.

Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo was one player Chelsea strongly considered making an offer for in the last transfer window, according to football.london. Journalist Ben Jacobs claimed that it would have taken around €60m (£51m) for a club to have signed him in January.

Todibo remained at Nice in the end, but he has not ruled out leaving the French club in the summer, with the Daily Mirror relaying his words.

The centre-back has only missed a few games this season, largely because of suspension.

A move to Chelsea could see him replace Thiago Silva, whose contract expires at the end of the campaign.

Todibo has given no guarantees over a Nice stay after being linked with some big clubs, including Chelsea.

Discussing his future, the 24-year-old said: “I feel really good at Nice. We’ll see what happens in the summer but we’re not there yet. I don’t want to get ahead of myself. I don’t want to give false hope. For now, I’m here at Nice.

“Football moves quickly, you never know what’s going to happen. I’ll wait until the summer to make my decision. If my decision is to stay, I’ll announce it, if it is to leave, I’ll announce it too and I’ll thank everyone, but we’re not there yet.”

Jean-Clair Todibo cannot guarantee Nice stay

With Todibo attracting interest from an outfit like Chelsea, it makes sense for him not to make any promises like he will not be leaving Nice.

The Blues are one of the biggest clubs in the world and have had some huge French players line up for them in the past.

A move to Stamford Bridge may prove to be too tempting for Todibo. And again, with Silva possibly departing west London in the next transfer window, Chelsea may very well decide to go after the France international.
