Ronan Kanda Murder Case
On June 29, 2022, Ronan set out to buy a PlayStation controller from a friend’s house. Tragically, just yards away from his home, Ronan was viciously attacked from behind in a case of mistaken identity.
The perpetrators, 16-year-olds Prabjeet Veadhesa and Sukhman Shergill had carried out the heinous act with a machete they had obtained earlier that day.
It was revealed during the trial that Veadhesa held a grudge against one of Ronan’s friends, leading to a confrontation between them in the past.
Following the dispute, Prabjeet Veadhesa ordered a ninja knife online some time ago and collected it from the post office on June 29.
Fuelled by anger and armed with weapons, Veadhesa, and his fellow Indian friend Shergill, conspired with two others to visit Ronan’s friend, intending to inflict violence.
However, their mistaken belief that Ronan was the person they sought led to the horrifying attack.
All four traveled to Lanesfield in a red Corsa operated by 20-year-old Josiah Francis and front-seat passenger 18-year-old Joseph Whittaker as Ronan made his way home.
The car entered Mount Road just before 8.30 pm as Ronan was almost home. Veadhesa and another 16-year-old, Sukhman Shergill, got out of the car and chased after Ronan.
The unfortunate 16-year-old was hit with the weapon twice from the backside. He was taken completely by surprise and was utterly powerless.
Despite Ronan’s desperate pleas for help, his injuries were too severe, and he tragically lost his life at the scene.
Following an intensive investigation, all four individuals involved in the murder were apprehended within days.
While Veadhesa was identified as the primary perpetrator, Shergill was found guilty of acting in a joint enterprise. However, the other two were acquitted of the charges.
Finally, the case came to an end on June 13, 2023, after the court decided the case, sentencing the teenagers, Prabjeet Veadhesa and Sukhman Shergill total of 34 years in prison, 18 and 16 years, respectively.
