That’s awkward! ABC News suffers an embarrassing on-air blunder after a rogue teleprompter accidentally appears on screen
An ABC News report descended into chaos when a piece of studio equipment went rogue during a live broadcast.
A video of the embarrassing gaffe shared to TikTok shows the teleprompter suddenly appearing in the background of a live in-studio interview.
At one point, guest Professor Anna Twomey appears to stifle a smile as she attempts to remain composed.
Viewers were quick to weigh-in on the disastrous incident on social media.
One viewer commented on Twomey’s ability to hold a straight face during the blunder, tweeting, ‘She did really well to keep it together… she was losing it towards the end though.’

Another viewer mistook the teleprompter for a camera and commented: ‘AI has brought ABC cameras to life. they seek celebrity and their first words will be ‘get me an agent.’
‘I love news bloopers like this,’ commented another viewer.
Meanwhile, another viewer joked that the gaffe came as a result of the ABC’s much publicised restructure of their news division, writing: ‘ABC News Australia cut backs.’
It comes a year after a similar technology fail sent left the hosts of ABC News breakfast looking helplessly embarrassed.

Viewers flooded social media with comments about the on-air incident
Last July, co-host Michael Rowland shared to his Twitter account a video of a camera aimlessly pointing into an empty corner of the studio as the show began.
Michael and co-host Lisa Millar were nowhere to be seen, leaving Lisa to gamely plough on with the script off-camera.
With an awkward wave, Lisa welcomed viewers while a clearly amused Michael stood beside her trying his best not to laugh.
Things took a turn for the worst just seconds later, as the camera seemed to tilt down, losing sight of the co-hosts.
