They have been married for eight years and have three children together.

But former Australian cricket captain David Warner and his wife Candice didn’t hit it off straight away.

The former Ironwoman has revealed that their first meeting was actually far from a fairytale, and that she didn’t think he was very nice.

Speaking on Channel 7’s The Morning Show on Friday, the 38-year-old said they first met after the City2Surf race in Sydney when they were introduced to one another by a mutual friend.

‘A friend of ours said you should meet David, he’s from your area he’s doing great things and it wasn’t to meet up for a date it was literally to meet someone else like-minded,’ she said.

‘And he just gave me absolute doughnuts, he gave me absolutely nothing. But in his defence he had a girlfriend at the time so he’s probably thinking ‘I’m not going to show someone else attention’.’

The pair got married in 2015 and share three daughters together, Ivy Mae, eight, Indi Rae, seven, and Isla Rose, three.

But Candice has said she never would have believed they would end up married with three children after they first met.

‘I walked away from that first initial meet up thinking he’s not that nice,’ she said.

‘I definitely didn’t think he was going to be the father of my kids or definitely get married to him.

‘It was probably the furthest thing from my mind.’

The former Ironwoman is currently doing publicity rounds for her new memoir Running Strong, where she she sheds light on her infamous ‘toilet tryst’ with Sonny Bill Williams in 2007.

The 2007 incident blew up after a photo was taken of the pair in the men’s bathroom at the Clovelly Hotel, in Sydney’s east.

Although she was single at the time and claimed the pair only shared a kiss, Candice revealed the media circus had caused her mental anguish to the point she considered suicide.

In an interview on Sunrise on Wednesday, the mother was asked by host Natalie Barr if she had ‘thought about coming out straight away’ when the scandal broke.

She said the media attention and subsequent apology she had to issue was due to women not having a ‘voice’ at the time.

Explaining how women were treated at the time of the incident, Candice said ‘We lived in a society where we didn’t have the voice, women didn’t have the voice that we do now.’

She added: ‘This was 16 years ago. I was forced to apologise, I was single, for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Nowadays that just wouldn’t happen.

‘Our society has changed, it still has a long way to go but I feel like as a woman, I have the confidence to be able to tell my side of the story and be heard.’

She said she wrote her memoir, Running Strong, in part for her three daughters ‘who in time will be able to read the book’.
