Home and Away star Debra Lawrence says she was worried about ruining her career and reputation if she starred on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!

She’s one of the fan favourite contestants on this year’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! Australia.

But former Home and Away star Debra Lawrence feared that featuring on the Channel 10 show would ruin her career.

The 66-year-old said although she was a fan of the reality show, she worried it would ruin her reputation.

‘[I] rang well-placed friends in high places saying, “Is this going to destroy my career, my credibility?’” she told news.com.au.

But her friends told her to grab the opportunity with both hands, as her longstanding career has been a product of saying ‘yes’ to everything.

‘I’ve been on the planet too long not to do everything that’s offered,’ Debra added.

‘Since leaving drama school, I’ve said yes … I’m just trying to think if I’ve said no to anything? I don’t think I have.’

Debra, who played Pippa Ross on Home and Away from 1990 to 1998, has no reason to worry about the show reuniting her reputation, as she has quickly become a fan favourite on the newest series of I’m A Celeb.

On Tuesday night’s episode, the actress was praised for kindly comforting her fellow camp mate, netball star Liz Ellis.

Liz, 50, opened up about her fertility struggles and how she did five rounds of IVF treatment and had three miscarriages before getting pregnant with her second child, Austin, who was born in 2016.

Debra then shared her story and hugged the sportswoman.

‘I lost four babies before I got [her youngest son] Will,’ she said.

‘They weren’t meant to be. I lost two single babies and then identical twin girls. They were later into the pregnancy, they had a syndrome, and they were never going to survive.

‘And my belief, Liz, is when Will was born… he was the baby we were waiting for. And so it makes him really precious.’

Liz then began crying, saying she couldn’t believe she was the first camp mate to let out tears in the jungle.

However, Debra continued to comfort her and then began crying herself when she explained that her twins were 16 weeks when she was told there was no heartbeat.

Many viewers thanked the two women for their candid discussion, and Debra’s vulnerability cemented her position as a fan favourite.

‘So glad to have Deb in this season. Liz Ellis too,’ one person wrote on Twitter.

While another commented: ‘The conversation with @LizzyLegsEllis and Deb had me in tears. Just beautiful.

‘Thank you. Tomorrow is my pregnancy loss anniversary of 16 years. These conversations are so important to have. It just never leaves you.’
