After postponing his tour, Lady A singer-guitarist Charles Kelley celebrated six months of sobriety last Saturday while vacationing in the Bahamas with his family.
‘This is the first time I actually put tools in place,’ the Georgia-born 41-year-old told Men’s Health on Monday.
‘What do you want out of this life? Do you want to wreck your family and your career? Or do you want to put some things into place to keep it successful?

‘It’s my second half of life. I’ve lived 25 years one way, and it was really freaking fun. It was awesome. Now I’ve got this whole second half. All right, that was fun. I did that. Now I’m ready to do this.’
Following his stint at a treatment center last summer, Charles continues to attend regular men’s recovery meetings as well as exercising six days a week.
‘It’s amazing what not drinking will do. You save yourself, I’m ashamed to say, anywhere from 1K to 2K calories a day in booze,’ Kelley admitted.
‘You’re bound to lose some weight. But I look back at pictures from just three months ago. It’s my face, my midsection. I’ve found that it all goes hand in hand. When I’m not drinking, I feel better. So then I work out.

On December 22, Charles released his new single As Far As You Could, which he described as his ‘goodbye letter to alcohol.’
The country trio formerly known as Lady Antebellum – including Hillary Scott and Dave Haywood – are planning on making their postponed, 21-date Request Line Tour a ‘dry tour’ in order to support Kelley.

And I think that that’s a big hurdle in recovery, is being able to go back on vacation, where maybe there was a lot of drinking before, and still enjoying it. So mission accomplished. We had such a great time’
