Model Cara Delevingne says she wants to end the ‘global stigma’ around discussing female masturbation: ‘Men are talking about it all the time’

Cara Delevingne is on a mission to break down the stigma around self pleasure.

The 30-year-old model says that while men are comfortable discussing masturbation, the topic is still taboo for women.

‘[There’s a] global stigma, especially as a woman, on talking about sex, asking for pleasure and what you want and what you like, and always wanting to please a man, that I wanted to kind of break through’ she tells this week’s Stellar Magazine.

‘My friend asked me the other day, ‘The vibrator you gave me isn’t working and I really need a new one, so please, what do I do?’ She’s got a boyfriend, [so] it’s pretty chill now.’

Cara went on: ‘When I was young, if you were a girl who masturbated, that was rough, that was gross. So girls are just masturbating in private, whereas men are talking about f***ing w**king all the time’.

The beauty is counting down the days until her docuseries, Planet Sex, premieres in the US on February 14 after airing on the BBC in the UK late last year.

The six-part series follows the supermodel as she explores her own ‘journey to self-discovery’ while traveling the world to discuss the topic with other people.

The actress and model identifies as ‘openly queer’ and has been romantically linked with Harry Styles, Miley Cyrus and Leonardo DiCaprio.

In recent years she has been linked mostly with women, including singer St. Vincent, actress Ashley Benson and singer Leah Mason, known as ‘Minke’.

In a trailer for the show Cara said: ‘I date men but, phwoar, do I love women and everyone else. In my own life I definitely had a lot of internalised homophobia and shame.’

Later, at a Pride parade, she exclaims: ‘I’m just living off this queer energy.’

Also releasing in February is the second and final season of the steampunk-themed Amazon Prime series titled, Carnival Row, which Cara stars in.
