Emotional Peter Andre says Christmas will be ‘bittersweet’ as he reflects on 10th anniversary of beloved brother’s death

Peter Andre has said Christmas will be ‘bittersweet’ as it marks a decade since the death of his beloved brother Andrew. 

Andrew passed away in 2012 aged 54 after a brave battle with kidney cancer, leaving his younger brother Pete and the rest of the family devastated. 

Reflecting on the loss of his sibling, Peter, 49, admitted even though 10 years have passed, the anniversary of Andrew’s death ‘doesn’t get any easier’.

‘It’s almost mind-blowing knowing it’s been a whole decade. Of course we will be with him on this sad anniversary. 

‘It will always be a difficult time and it doesn’t get any easier,’ Pete told New! Magazine. 

‘Milestones like this are a time to reflect and it’s a very emotional time for us as a family. It does make Christmas a bittersweet time.’

While taking time to remember Andrew, the singer says he also wants to make memories with his four children and has planned a trip to Lapland and will go to a carol service on Christmas Eve.

Peter has been open about how he spiraled into a deep depression after the loss of his brother – and how his wife Emily helped him through his grief. 

He said previously: ‘I went to a dark place, worse than any of the anxieties I’d had before. I was constantly crying… I don’t know how Emily put up with me.’ 

Stressing the importance of getting checked out at the GP, Peter said: ‘Early diagnosis is key. I lost my brother five years ago, it tore our family apart.

‘We don’t talk about it, we’ve never really got over it. It made me realise millions of families go through this.

‘Us guys sometimes are a bit stubborn, sometimes you think it’s nothing, but it could be too late. It’s really important.’

Andrew was diagnosed with kidney cancer in February 2012 and spent months undergoing chemotherapy, before tragically passing away in December of the same year. 

Peter had postponed his tour to spend time with his brother at the whole family was at his bedside in his final moments.
