Sydney band DMA’s voted Triple J’s number one Like A Version of all time with cover of Cher’s Believe
Triple J listeners voted for their top 100 Like A Version hits, and the station played them all on Saturday as it counted down to number one.
And Sydney band DMA’s was crowned with the top spot for its cover of Cher‘s Believe.
Like A Version is a weekly segment on the radio station that sees artists play live in Triple J’s studio.
Artists perform one song of their own, and one cover.
DMA’s sang Cher’s iconic 90s hit at the radio station in 2016, and after it received much praise the band began to perform it as part their live sets on stage.

The band, that consists of members Tommy O’Dell, Johnny Took and Matt Mason, even performed the cover three years ago at the AFL Grand Final.
Coming in at second place in Triple J’s top Like A Version hits was Denzel Curry with his cover of Rage Against the Machine’s Bulls On Parade.
Ocean Alley then nabbed the third spot with its cover of Baby Come Back by 70s LA rock group Player.

Speaking to Triple J’s Bryce & Concetta after the win was announced, DMA’s said doing the segment Like A Version was a big deal for them, so they’re very glad that listener’s enjoy it.
Lead singer Tommy said: ‘I remember walking in and thinking this bench is cool because I could put my lyrics on it, I hadn’t learnt the song very well.
‘I still don’t really know it very well. If we ever do it live I still have the lyrics [in front].’

Guitarist Johnny added: ‘Obviously Like A Version’s such a huge thing now and such a staple in the Australian music scene.
‘I kind of feel like it was big back then but it was still kind of on the way up.
‘And so it’s kind of funny like we went in and we were like “oh yeah we just did that cover” and like a lot of things it’s kind of at the whim of the internet.
‘We were quite happy that it wasn’t flooded with negativity, and that’s when we realised that it was actually pretty good, a pretty good cover I guess.’
