Welcome to Wrexham’s second series release date is confirmed after Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s side earned promotion back to League Two

The release date for the much-anticipated second series of Welcome to Wrexham has been confirmed, after the side earned historic promotion back to the English Football League in April.

The FX series – which follows Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney‘s Welsh football club on their quest for promotion – will be available to stream on Disney+ in the UK from 12 September.

Hulu, which streams the show in America, tweeted the release date, adding: ‘Grab the lads. Let’s play some footy.’

Whilst no more information has been given, hearing that the show will be back soon sent fans into a frenzy.

‘Let’s go!!!! So many good sports docs coming out. Even if you’re not a soccer fan, you gotta watch this’ one person wrote.

The announcement comes after the smash hit show earned an impressive six Emmy nominations, with Ryan and Rob suggesting it’s the heart of the show that has captivated viewers.

They said in a statement: ‘The story of Wrexham has resonated with millions of people because you don’t have to be Welsh or a football fan to be moved by this town.

‘We are so grateful for today’s 6 Emmy nominations and are continuously honored the people of Wrexham allow us to tell their tale.

‘Diolch! Cymru am byth!’ which means Thank you! Wales forever.

Deadpool star Ryan, 46 and fellow actor Rob bought Wrexham in 2021 after the team went into administration.

The club hadn’t been in the Football League in over 15 years, but with Ryan and Rob’s investment and marketing, they helped promote it both literally and figuratively.

Speaking to Variety, the pair said they didn’t know what to expect when visiting the Welsh town, but decided that they would turn the focus of the series towards Wrexham and its people.

‘If you’re just reading the headlines, you probably think, ‘Oh, this show is going to be funny,” Reynolds said. ”It’s gonna be a fish-out-of-water story about two schmucky showbiz morons going in, falling on their asses, learning as they go.’

‘But the show literally does not centre us. It centres the town.’

‘The truth is we didn’t know a f***ing thing when we went in there,’ Reynolds added.

‘I really struggled at the beginning. There’s a moment in the series where I’m joking that I didn’t know that I had the option to not appear on camera all the time.’

Since the duo have taken over as co-chairman, the club has gone from the fifth tier National League to League Two in the Football League.

And it now looks as though they want to do the same for Formula 1 as the two stars have joined a consortium of investors – including RedBird Capital Partners, which owns AC Milan, and fellow actor Michael B. Jordan among others – to purchase a 24 percent stake in Alpine F1 Team.
