Celebrity stylist Lawrence ‘Law’ Roach was in great spirits attending the inaugural Fashion Trust US Awards at Goya Studios in Los Angeles on Tuesday.

It was the first public appearance of the 44-year-old ‘image architect’ since he dramatically announced his retirement one week ago.

Law opted for a grey Gucci maxi-blazer with a sparkly broach over a white collared shirt, black pants, and patent leather high-heeled Louboutin boots.

Roach sits on the board of advisors for Fashion Trust US, a brand new non-profit organization supporting the next generation of designers based in the States.

The Chicago-born tastemaker got involved through Fashion Trust US founder Tania Fares, who works as contributing editor at British Vogue where he’s employed as West Coast editor.

While onstage, Law presented FTUS’ Graduate Award to NYC-based Ghanaian designer Papa Oppong, who won a grant and professional mentorship from Google.

Earlier that morning, Roach took to Twitter to further explain why he’s retiring from celebrity styling a week after initially blaming ‘politics, lies, and false narratives.’

Many had speculated the Legendary judge was offended about not getting a front row seat beside his first major client Zendaya at the Louis Vuitton FW/23 presentation in Paris on March 6 – a moment that went viral.

‘Please stop it. There was never a problem with a seat,’ Law – who boasts 1.4M social media followers – tweeted.

‘This s*** is getting out of hand. [It’s] just not true. I wish y’all all could experience being late for a fashion show. I retired because I got overwhelmed and that I’ve never [gotten] a chance to properly grieve a great loss.’

Roach was referring to his three-year old nephew Lamar Roach Jr., who died in 2021 after falling out of a window on the 17th story of a Chicago building.

‘I just want to be with my nieces and family. [It’s] not more than that. Please stop,’ the CFDA Stylist Award winner wrote.

‘Damn one of the greatest American designers ever just left the house he’s been synonymous with and y’all still talking about a seat?’

On March 15, Law clarified that he would continue to style his ‘little sister’ Zendaya, because they have ‘real love’ not ‘fake industry love.’

Roach started working with the 26-year-old Emmy winner at age 14 in 2011 when she starred as Rocky Blue in the Disney Channel sitcom Shake It Up alongside Bella Thorne.

The America’s Next Top Model alum and Zendaya have since collaborated on many memorable red carpet moments, including the light-up Tommy Hilfiger gown at the 2019 Met Gala where he dressed as her fairy godmother.

Law’s esteemed clientele also included Celine Dion, Ariana Grande, Kerry Washington, Hunter Schafer, Haliee Steinfeld, Megan Thee Stallion, Eve Jobs, Emma Watson, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Halsey, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Tiffany Haddish.

Roach originally started his career at the former Deliciously Vintage boutique in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood, which controversial rapper-designer Kanye ‘Ye’ West hyped up back in 2009.
