A family of four have become the latest victims of what some are calling a crime spree in an affluent suburb, as a famous local slammed the Premier over the issue.

On Tuesday, former AFL WAG Rebecca Judd called out Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan after a home invasion in her well-heeled suburb left an elderly man fighting for his life.

This followed a shocking night of crime where another house in Brighton, 11km south-east of Melbourne’s CBD, was broken into three times within five hours early Sunday which was all captured on CCTV.

Two hooded and masked thieves first broke in at 1am to steal car keys and the underground garage remote control as the family slept.

They returned at 2.30am with more accomplices to steal the family’s sedan, a black ute and a Mini Cooper.

By 6am, the brazen thieves were back with even more help to clear out the rest of the garage to steal a dirt bike, an e-scooter, adventure bike, golf clubs, a handbag and other expensive possessions.

The thieves even peeked through a bathroom window while a guest of the family was in the shower.

‘Once they knew it was an easy target, they called their mates and cleared the rest out,’ a family member, who wants to remain anonymous,’ the resident told Seven News.

‘Probably the scariest thing is how many times they came back.’

The offenders appear to be young, with the resident saying he ‘almost expected’ the burglary because youth crime is so common in the area.

‘You see it all the time,’ the man added.

Police are investigating the incident.

‘It’s typical of Melbourne at the moment,’ the Victoria Opposition police spokesman Brad Battin said.

‘It’s a worrying sign when people have such little fear they can return to the same residence three times in one night.

‘I think young people today know the laws better than we think as it’s effectively a green light to young people that you can commit crime here in Victoria.’

The next morning in the same suburb, three offenders broke into a home a stone’s throw from Judd’s $7.3million mansion, leading her to again attack the level of crime.

‘A 74-year-old man home at the time was significantly assaulted and was subsequently transported to hospital in a critical condition,’ a police statement read.

Judd, who lives with her AFL premiership legend husband Chris and their four children, shared a news report of the story.

‘Just another night in Victoria (yes, this is Bayside again but we know this happens everywhere),’ Judd told her 758,000 Instagram followers.

She also directly address the state Premier. ‘Jacinta Allan how are you still avoiding this? Let’s see how many of the alleged offenders are out on bail?’

‘Thoughts are with the victim in ICU and his poor wife.’

Judd, 41, has persistently called on the Victorian government to do more to tackle crime in Melbourne.

In June 2022, she said she felt ‘unsafe’ in her mansion and that she was ‘so sick of the rapes, bashings and home invasions at the hands of the gangs in Bayside’.

‘I personally know two women who have experienced home invasions in Brighton in the last few weeks while they were at home,’ she said.

She also reposted CCTV footage of a gang of young men lurking outside properties in her well-to-do suburb and claimed it made her feel ‘unsafe’.
