The stepfather of a repeat youth offender in Queensland has offered an emotional apology to the victims of an armed break-in.
Video captured the 15-year-old and other youths allegedly carrying weapons while kicking in the door of a family home at Calamvale early last month.
“There’s a reason they cover their heads, there’s a reason they’re wearing gloves,” the man who cannot be identified said.
“They know what they’re doing is wrong.
“I’m sorry and we tried our hardest to prevent this from happening.”
Police sources have confirmed to 9News the boy has racked up numerous charges in the past 12 months.
He has been accused of common assault, break and enter and damaging a government vehicle.
“The local police officers know him by first name, they know that he’s a problem and it’s like they openly admit their hands are tied,” the man said.
“They can charge him but the rest of the justice system lets him down.
“The government has got to support the police, the judicial system has to support it all.
When asked why he was speaking out, the boy’s stepfather’s answer was simple – the death of Vyleen White.
