Robert was driving a bus through Cleveland last month when one of his young passengers became the target of an alleged violent attempted robbery.

But three days later he got a call from his boss at Transdev, who told him he was being fired.

They told him by stepping in, he committed misconduct.

Robert said his first instinct was to help by shouting “enough” at the teenager.

“When I looked down the bus the guy behind me was now down on the floor being set upon by the three other youths,” Robert said.

“Two of them stopped and the third one I had to just grab by the shoulders and pull off and that was it,” he said.

“He wasn’t even struggling, I think he wanted to be stopped.”

Robert said he just had to stop it.

”It could have been my kid… you just see some kid being booted and kicked you gotta stop it.

“I just want my job back.”

A 16-year-old boy was charged over the incident.

A police officer said he believed public perception would be very positive of Robert’s actions.

“I strongly believe had Robert not intervened the victim may have received far worse injuries and may have even resulted in grievous bodily harm or death,” the officer said.

9News approached Travsdev for comment but it said it did not comment on individual cases.

The Transport Workers Union is working with Robert to file an unfair dismissal claim to help him get his job back.
