Is In-N-Out FINALLY going to open restaurants on the East Coast? Burger joint will open a regional corporate HQ in Tennessee in 2026 – as it slowly inches closer to the Big Apple

  • The new location would make it the farthest East In-N-Out in the country
  • In-N-Out’s rare move to head east comes after years of insisting that it would not
  • There are 385 locations across California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Texas, Oregon and Colorado

In-N-Out appears to be continuing its shift towards the east coast as it looks to open a regional corporate headquarters in Tennessee.

The California cult-favorite, often ranked among best chains in the country, is reportedly planning the major expansion in the state by 2026.

The move is the most-eastward expansion yet for the company, whose current most eastward state is Mississippi.

The establishment, which opened its first store in California in 1948, has been flipping burgers west of the Mississippi River ever since.

In-N-Out’s rare move to head east comes after years of insisting that it would not.

Founded in 1948 as California’s first drive-thru hamburger stand in the LA suburb of Baldwin Park, In-N-Out is still owned and operated by the Snyder family and celebrating its 75th year in business.

Despite the chain’s cult-like following in California, rapid expansion was still not on the menu until 1992.

The Snyders then stepped beyond California’s borders for the first time, opening a restaurant in Las Vegas.

By 2015, In-N-Out expanded to Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Texas and Oregon. Now, there are currently 385 locations throughout California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Texas, Oregon and Colorado.

In-N-Out’s expansion has had an overall enthusiastic response. In Texas, some customers even camped outside the night before opening.

Lynsi Snyder-Ellingson, 41, In-N-Out’s owner and president, acknowledged she once said Texas would be the end of the eastward expansion at a press conference announcing future expansion in January. But now, she has other plans.

‘This expansion is significant for our Company,’ Snyder said.

‘For many years, we’ve heard requests from our Customers in Tennessee to consider opening locations near them, further east than we’ve ever been,’ she said, calling the customers the company’s ‘most important asset.’

‘We get a lot of requests in different states to open, and I’m very happy to meet the customers here and make their dreams come true, and probably a few other states a little upset,’ she said.

‘Don’t worry, there’s others that will be included in this plan eventually,’ she added.
