Trump’s lawyers told to ‘EXPECT’ third indictment as they meet with Special Counsel’s office

  • Prosecutors on Special Counsel Jack Smith’s team met with lawyers representing Trump at the Department of Justice on Thursday
  • Smith is investigating whether Trump and his allies interfered with the transition of power after the 2020 election
  • It will be the third set of criminal charges against Trump since he launched his campaign to return to the White House in 2024

Donald Trump‘s lawyers have arrived for crunch talks with Special Counsel Jack Smith’s office as he braces for an indictment on his bid to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

Prosecutors on Smith’s team met with Todd Blanche and John Laura – lawyers representing Trump – at the Department of Justice on Thursday, NBC News first reported.

During the meeting they were told to ‘expect’ a third indictment of Trump as a result of his efforts to overturn the election results.

Smith is investigating whether Trump and his allies interfered with the transition of power after the 2020 election. He also indicted Trump on 37 counts last month on criminal charges including obstruction of justice for his handling of the classified materials, which the former president pleaded not guilty to.

Trump confirmed last week that he received a target letter from the Department of Justice confirming he is the focus of the criminal investigation and that he expected to be arrested ‘imminently.’

It will be the third set of criminal charges against Trump since he launched his campaign to return to the White House in 2024.

Trump has also been indicted by New York District Attorney Alvin Bragg for falsifying business records, which he has also denied.

His trusted White House aide Walt Nauta was also indicted in the classified documents scandal.

The grand jury looking into January 6 is still convening and hearing from key witnesses in the case this week.

Trump has repeatedly slammed the January 6 investigation as a ‘witch hunt’ and claims it is election interference because he is leading in the polls.

He claimed Smith’s investigation is ‘election interference’ and accused President Joe Biden of ‘going after his ‘number one political opponent.’

The former president is planning to go on the offense by working with his top Republican Hill allies to call out ‘hypocrisies’ in the Hunter Biden criminal probe and Biden family ‘cover-up.’

First, GOP leaders plan to point out the ‘hypocrisies’ with how the investigation into the president’s son Hunter Biden has been handled versus the investigation into Trump.

They will to point to the multiple whistleblowers that have sounded the alarm about the conduct of the investigation into Hunter.

Two IRS whistleblowers  have alleged that the president’s son had been given favorable treatment by investigators including a pattern by DOJ and IRS leadership of ‘slow-walking investigative steps’ and delaying enforcement actions.

The second focus of the Republicans’ Trump defense, a source told DailyMail.com, will be to turn attention to the ‘suspect’ timing of the indictments, which have come around major announcements by Republicans revealing Biden family shady business dealings.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has said the whole case into the former president has been politically motivated.

‘Recently President Trump went up in the polls and was actually surpassing President Biden for reelection. So what do they do now? Weaponize government to go after their No. 1 opponent,’ he told reporters.

‘This is not equal justice. They treat people differently and they go after their adversaries,’ McCarthy added last week.
