Jakub Jankto takes a bold step. It is still not common practice in the world of professional football for players to publicly acknowledge their homosexuality. The fear of disadvantages in the sport is still too great. Even ex-soccer professional Philipp Lahm (39) advised men not to come out during their active careers. But another athlete wanted to do things differently. Soccer pro-Jakub Jankto came out as gay.
“Like everyone else, I want to live my life in freedom. Without fear. Without violence. But with love. I’m gay and I don’t want to hide anymore,” were the words of a post that Jakub posted on Instagram. For example, the national player played for the Czech Republic at the European Football Championship in 2021.
His football club Sparta Prague has already reacted to Jakub’s coming out on Twitter. “You have our support. Live your life, Jakub,” wrote the club. Numerous fans also reacted positively and paid their respects to him.
