Jason Cundy was blown away by Chelsea’s Cole Palmer in Sunday’s dramatic FA Cup win over Leicester City.

Chelsea are through to the FA Cup semi-finals after today’s 4-2 home win over Championship club Leicester, but that only begins to tell half of the story.

The Blues cruised into half-time with a 2-0 lead, which quickly became 2-2 after a catastrophic start to the second period from the hosts at Stamford Bridge.

Eventually, Mauricio Pochettino’s side scored two late goals in stoppage time and beat a resilient 10-man Leicester in a classic cup tie.

Cole Palmer, 21, was once again a standout individual in Chelsea colours.

He scored his 14th Chelsea goal on the stroke of half-time with a neat finish. Also, his intelligent backheeled pass assisted Carney Chukwuemeka’s goal to make it 3-2.

When reacting to Palmer’s assist for the Chukwuemeka goal, Cundy said via Chelsea’s official app (2:35pm 17 March): “What a piece of genius this is from Cole Palmer. It’s a brilliant, brilliant pass… The flick is superb.”

Cundy later added (2:40pm): “He’s such a beautiful player to watch. His balance, his poise. For someone who’s got such lovely poise and balance, he’s a big lad.”

Palmer seems to impact games whenever he’s on the pitch, the one player that brings calm and composure amid so much chaos.

It’s now six times this season that the left-footed attacker has scored and assisted in the same game.

Speaking via Chelsea’s official website earlier this week, Blues head coach Pochettino described Palmer as “special” for his impact in the team at such a young age. He proved it yet again this weekend, too.

He’ll now join up with England for this international break as one of the most in-form stars in Europe. It would be great for Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate to try find room for him ahead of this summer’s Euros.

Manchester City are a giant team that have superstar everywhere in their dressing room, but even we think they must have some regret about selling Palmer to Chelsea last summer.
