Chelsea could be tempted to make a move for one of their recent targets as his club consider lowering his asking price.
While Chelsea have been linked with several strikers, the club are yet to sign one who will definitely be part of Enzo Maresca‘s first team this upcoming season.
Two names that have been mentioned are Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran and Atletico Madrid’s Samu Omorodion.
However, Chelsea are no longer chasing Duran, while their interest in Omorodion also looks to have cooled.
Aston Villa could lower Jhon Duran’s asking price
Chelsea do not look keen on meeting Villa’s valuation of Duran, hence their interest cooling. It has given West Ham United a real chance to sign the forward this summer.
West Ham have an agreement with Duran, but striking one with Villa seems to have been a problem for both the Hammers and Chelsea.
According to HITC, neither West Ham nor Chelsea wanted to pay the £40m price tag Villa slapped on their striker.
However, the same outlet says the Champions League side could now be prepared to consider offers lower than £40m for the 20-year-old.
If that turns out to be the case, maybe Chelsea will reignite their interest and try to add Duran to Maresca’s squad before the transfer window closes.
Chelsea should consider Jhon Duran bid
Chelsea could start the 2024/25 season with a lack of options up front. If Armando Broja leaves the club again and Marc Guiu is loaned out, then Nicolas Jackson could end up being the only natural No.9 the new Chelsea manager has in his squad.
If Duran is going to cost something closer to £30m, then it may be worth Chelsea signing him just to get an extra body in at Stamford Bridge.
Anything significantly more than that, and you would have to question the deal. Duran is a young striker with talent. His manager Unai Emery hailed him as “special” in an interview with Sky Sports (via BBC Sport) in May.
But it would be unwise for Chelsea to overspend on potential when they already have a squad filled with young players.
