Chelsea could have another clearout at the end of the season.

Chelsea got rid of a lot of players last summer, including the likes of N’Golo Kante, Kai Havertz and Mateo Kovacic, and something similar could happen again before the start of the 2024/25 campaign.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, who has been speaking to GiveMeSport, Chelsea could sell three players in the summer for £100m.

Ian Maatsen and Lewis Hall are just two out of five or six names who Jacobs believes could depart, with Newcastle United having an obligation to buy the latter based on certain conditions.

As for Maatsen, who is currently on loan at Borussia Dortmund, the left-back says he is keeping his options “open”.

Another Chelsea clearout imminent

Based on Jacobs words, it looks like there could be a lot of sales at Chelsea in the summer.

Speaking about what the Blues could do in the next transfer window, he said: “We mustn’t forget that Chelsea feel they can get £30m/£35m for Ian Maatsen. The obligation to buy for Lewis Hall is expected to kick in, and that’s £30m plus. You’ve got Romelu Lukaku, who Chelsea feel they can still get £35m for. Trevoh Chalobah is surplus to requirements.

“Marc Cucurella, it’s not unthinkable that he would be sold for the right price. Armando Broja is for sale and on loan at Fulham. If that works out, perhaps Fulham would be prepared to drop £35m or something in that ballpark.

“So if you discount Conor Gallagher and add up all of those other names and fees, even if just two or three of the four or five of those names were sold, that’s still going to be £70m to £100m.”

Who should Chelsea keep?

Out of the above names, it makes sense to retain Maatsen. Left-back has been a bit of an issue for Chelsea this season and the Dutch youngster is thriving in that position at Dortmund right now.

He recently scored his first goal for the club and has also provided two assists.

A proven No.9 like Lukaku could also be a useful asset to Mauricio Pochettino and keeping the Belgian at Stamford Bridge would allow the Blues to save millions. However, it is quite clear that he does not want to be part of the Argentine’s first team.

His loan at Roma is his second one since rejoining Chelsea back in 2021.
