It is quite clear that Chelsea want to sign a new striker this summer.

The problem is the two players who seem to be their main targets are not going to be easy to land.

Napoli’s Victor Osimhen has been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea, but it is being reported that Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are also keen on the 25-year-old.

A £113m release clause that he has in his contract, according to the Evening Standard, means a deal to sign him is going to be a very expensive one. Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres is not going to be cheap either.

The Sweden international is also thought to be on Chelsea’s radar, but he has a very large release clause as well, which is reportedly set at €100m (£85m).

Considering the above and the fact that Chelsea are almost certain to miss out on Champions League qualification, signing Osimhen or Gyokeres could be difficult. In terms of an alternative, then, who else could the Blues look at?

Chelsea may now have to consider signing Dominic Solanke

By no means should Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke be at the top of Chelsea’s shortlist going into the summer.

If the club want to challenge for the Premier League title again, then they probably need someone who is better than the 26-year-old, a forward with a more proven track record.

However, at this point, you cannot overlook him and what he has done this season. His return of 15 goals from 28 Premier League games is really impressive.

Again, though, this is the first time that Solanke has been prolific in the top flight. His addition could be a huge gamble.

However, with a price tag of £50m, according to the Daily Star, the England international is a much more attainable option than the likes of Osimhen and Gyokeres.

If Chelsea cannot get one of the two and Mauricio Pochettino feels it is imperative that a new centre-forward is brought in in the summer, then Solanke probably has to become a name the club consider.
