Pat Nevin has claimed that there’s a star in Chelsea’s ranks he thinks may even overtake Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka as a player in the future.
Bukayo Saka, 22, has been performing at a top level for a long time despite his youth. He’s scored 58 goals and made 53 assists in 225 first-team appearances for Arsenal. On top of that, the right-winger has 11 goals in 32 senior England caps.
There’s no doubt Saka’s been one of the world’s most exciting and talented young players in recent times.
Do Chelsea have any youngsters of their own that can compare to the Arsenal star, though?
Pat Nevin suggest Chelsea man may overtake Bukayo Saka
BBC pundit Pat Nevin has just delivered a glowing verdict on the quality and impact of Chelsea’s Cole Palmer this season. At the age of 22, he’s walked into Stamford Bridge and had a sensational debut year. He’s scored 24 goals in 42 Blues appearances so far.
Nevin has made the bold claim that he won’t be surprised to see Palmer overtake the likes of Saka, Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden in the years to come.
When asked which player has taken the Premier League by storm this season, Nevin wrote in his BBC Football Extra newsletter (7:01 pm, May 6, 2024): “The real answer is Cole Palmer. This has been an extraordinary season from the youngster who has got to where I thought he would in five or six years, but it took him just a matter of months.
”In one season he has gone from Man City leftover to being in the running for the Premier League player of the year. He is worthy of a place in the England starting line up alongside Phil Foden, Jude Bellingham and Bukayo Saka. There is an argument that he has the best vision of all of the above, something that will be needed in Germany.
”He has been astonishing and a joy to watch with his artistry and don’t be surprised if he eclipses them all to be a true great of his generation.”
